About Mary Jo Lavin
I embarked on a dog training adventure with my Tibetan Terrier, Scamp. Starting in 1990, we trained and competed in obedience and then agility, and had a long and successful partnership, both locally and nationally. My interest in agility continued for the next 30 years with multiple dogs, competing at the highest levels. My current Border Collies and I have focused on herding and, more recently, nosework. Both earned their NW1 at age 14.
I have been teaching classes, private lessons, workshops and at camps for many years. My own competition experience has provided me with a perspective that I share with my students. I understand that dogs and handlers learn in different ways and, as a trainer, I am most successful by adapting instructional techniques to best suit their needs. My training is coordinated to build confidence and understanding in both members of the team. In addition to agility, I have taught family pet, CGC training and sport puppy classes. I have been a Special Education Instructional Assistant in the public schools for over 15 years, working with many different students in a variety of settings. Patience and understanding are key to success in this position. I have a Bachelor's degree in English literature and enjoy reading, knitting and studying Gaeilge, the Irish language. I live in Central Massachusetts with my husband, two daughters, dog and cats. HOMESTEAD FARM NOSEWORK NORTH BROOKFIELD, MA 01535 homesteadfarmnosework.com [email protected] 508-612-3228 |
